From a concerned Parishioner:
Supporting Our Parish During the Shut Down
As Fr. Garcia briefly mentioned during what was our final mass at St. Pius X Church until the threat of the Coronavirus is lifted, our church will continue to rely on our donations to sustain it. Although there will be no masses or community gatherings, the parish will need to conduct business as usual behind the scenes. The staff will remain working, utilities and other bills will need to be paid, the grounds will be maintained, etc. Since a majority of donations are made by parishioners via the collection basket passed during the masses, it might become easy for our community to forget about alms-giving at this time of closure.
But it is now more than ever St. Pius X Church needs us to remain generous and diligent with our monetary contributions to our parish church.
Even with reminders, and access to online giving, the potential for a decline in donations is great. Besides accessibility, we must consider that there will be folks in our parish hit with unexpected financial burden during the Coronavirus crisis and they simply will not be able to donate during this time. For those NOT financially impacted, I urge you to consider digging deeper into your pockets to help alleviate the risk of shortage in parish funds.
This could actually be an opportune time for many to expand their alms-giving. As we are asked to remain confined to our homes and to avoid public places, people will be eating out less, avoiding movie theaters and other forms of entertainment outside of the home, using less gasoline by staying in, etc. I challenge you to consider donating the money you will be saving on such activities over the next several weeks to our parish, St. Pius X Church.
May God Bless you and keep you healthy.
